This letter from Barry Cockcroft Chief Dental officer, highlights current key initiatives to improve the quality of local decontamination in primary care dental practices. It emphasises the production of a self audit tool to assess compliance with the recently published guidance around decontamination, and encourages PCTs to use this tool rather than investing their own resources and duplicating work. It also encourages PCTs to participate in the National Survey of Dental Decontamination planned for this year.
