The fifth round of Consultative Groups meetings Discussed and addressed recommendation to the bottlenecksThe fifth round of CGs meetings recently held after six months, important issues, such as aid effectiveness, and financial constraints on the implementations of the Afghanistan Compact benchmarks, that were raised by the technical working groups, were highlighted and recommendations have been made over proposed agenda of the meetings for each consultative group namely; Economic Governance, Governance, Rule of Law and Human Rights, Health, Social protection, Infrastructure (Water, Energy and Transport- Road and Civil Aviation), Agriculture and Rural Development, Education and Infrastructure (Mines, Urban Development, Telecommunication and Environment).

Joint responsibility for implementation of ANDS emphasizedThe third day of Community Development Councils (CDCs) session was marked by ANDS update and the current status of PDPs. Representatives of more than 10000 Afghan villages and local communities were updated on Provincial Development Plans (PDPs) created during wide sub-national consultations (SNCs) across the country. These consultations play a crucial role in the completion of the ANDS.

Cabinet Economic Council MeetingH.E. Zia Masoud, First Vice President opened the meeting. H.E. highlighted the importance and impact of roads for the overall development of Afghanistan, particularly in relation to economic growth, poverty reduction and regional cooperation. H.E. Dr. Rassoli, Deputy Minister of Public Works presented a detailed presentation on the MPW Strategy, achievements in roads (Regional, National Highways, Provincial roads and Rural Roads) and current challenges.

The Non-Aligned Movement, Afghanistan in the past, present and futureAfghanistan was impartial during the First and Second World War and this factor paved the way for Afghanistan to be a member of the Non-Aligned Movement. Afghanistan, unlike Pakistan and Iran, did not accept to enter into military alliance with the West. Afghanistan attended the Non-Aligned Movement Conferences held in Bandung, Indonesia in April 1955.
